Spirituality

The Extraordinary in the Ordinary

Our children have the opportunity to experience spirituality everyday from lessons to play.  Our children show a sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning about themselves, others and the world around them.  We encourage them to use their imagination and creativity in all aspects of school.  Spirituality allows the children to flourish and live out our school vision and values, they see the extraordinary in the ordinary.

Spirituality can be deeply personal and at Borden we aim to support spiritual development by providing a safe space to explore their experiences and beliefs.  Reflection opportunities happen everyday for the children to take time, think in the moment which can be religious or non-religious. We practice this during worship, lessons and at the end of the day when we ask the children and adults to reflect on their day.

Collective Worship gives the opportunity for the children be spiritual and reflect, along with areas specifically designed for the children to be reflective e.g. Willow area on the field; the bell tent; Forest School and the church.

A new spiritual area in the corner of the playground is currently being developed with ideas from the House Captains and School Council. It is a moment to be still, silent and share.

As practioners, we learn form each other. EYFS encompasses spirituality and because we recognise this, our teachers spend time in this setting to experience how spirituality is captured and use this outstanding practice in their own setting. If the moment allows, we collect examples and display them in the classrooms under the title of the extraordinary in the ordinary.
